An collectible geegaws are just open-world padding. Treasure chests aren't a thing to find, what's in them has to be interesting - I learned from Bloodborne's chalice dungeons that treasure chests which cannot possibly contain a good item are extremely boring. Food seems equally disappointing, it's just another consumable/crafting item. Monster parts is giving me crafting material instead of giving me the actual reward, which is another huge bugbear of mine. I generally feel that ammunition shouldn't exist in games unless you're deliberately going from ammunition scarcity (see: Resident Evil). Speaking from my Elden Ring perspective, all of that stuff is what disappointed me to find. I got bored with BotW before I got to the point of the lack of treasure being a problem, but I don't think you're helping your case here. I hear good things, just haven't had 'em. Been meaning to try one of them Oracle games, maybe Minish Cap or the one where he has pink hair. It didn't insult my intelligence, devalue my time, or kick me in the shins out of nowhere.Īs for 2D Zelda, I've only played Four Swords Adventure, which was a blast of an afternoon with my pals. Limited options with unlimited use made me immediately reach in my bag for the right tools, instead of desperately scrounging the area for some piddly broadsword that couldn't get the job done even if I threatened its broadchildren. My shields could break, but only if I used them in the dumbest way possible. Skyward Sword didn't waste my time with weapon durability, my sword just got stronger and prettier. Don't get me wrong, I adore the Wild Era games, but that adoration is there in spite of the stupid open-world padding they only threw in because it was the style at the time. If you need reasons to swap weapons, this guy's too fast for your axe, that guy's able to dodge really well up close but is rooted to the ground right in spearing range, his buddy is weak to ice attacks, and the guy over there has armor that needs broken before you can whale on him. If you "need to find" something, there's ammunition, monster parts, food, treasure chests, animals, various collectible geegaws, literally anything but the exact same weapon over and over again.
